Our Traditional Lawn Seed mixture is the one to choose for formal, luxurious lawns. A slow growing blend of pure fescue species (strong creeping red fescue and slender creeping red fescue) means that this grass seed mixture is also perfect for low maintenance lawns and landscaping projects. As well as being exceptionally fine and dense, this grass seed mixture is also slow growing, meaning that this mixture is ideal for large landscapes and open spaces that will not receive heavy foot traffic.

Issues with germination ???

Hi, I was hoing to wait a little longer before contacting you, but as you are requesting info sadly with well over a month of applying the seedat three different locations NONE has appeared to germinate

I have been as an Vol environmental charity reseve manager using your grass seed for a number of years with total satisfaction.
I am aware of some unusual weather patterns during this period, but respectfully ask for your comments and actions

I would have given a 1 star rating if it were not for my previous experiences with you

My son put down the lawn seed for me on my two lawns

My son put down the lawn seed for me on my two lawns, unfortunately there is no sign of growth at all, despite me watering religeously in the mornings and the evenings, trying not to think of my water bill. Can you explain, please?

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you have not yet seen any signs of germination.

There are a number of variables that could be affecting establishment here, with one of the most important being soil temperature rather than air temperature. Whilst daytime temperatures may feel mild, grass seed will often remain dormant if soil temperatures are still too low for consistent germination.

Other contributing factors can include soil structure and compaction, nutrient levels, soil pH, moisture retention, drainage, seed-to-soil contact and even localised shade or weather conditions. In some cases, excessive watering can also slow progress if the soil becomes overly saturated.

Grass seed is a natural product and establishment can vary considerably depending on the conditions at the time of sowing and the environment it is being introduced into.

Slow to germinate grass seed.

My brother in law, a retired farmer, sowed this 5Kg of seed for me 3 weeks and 3 days ago on 16 September and it has been kept ‘moist’ as recommended. So far I’m afraid there are very few signs of germination. It must be very slow growing!

Shortly after, I sowed cheap grass seed elsewhere on some bare patches in my garden (bought from a bin in my local shop last year) and it germinated within 2 weeks.

I am hoping there will be more signs of life with your traditional grass seed before the end of October!

Only about 50% set

Having prepared my lawn by scarifying and cutting it short, I spread the grass seed ensuring good soil contact, I watered the grass 3 times daily but still only approx half the seed took and I now have a patchy lawn.0

Sorry to hear you are only seeing 50% of the grass seed take in your lawn. It's important to keep in mind that fescue can take up to 21 days to germinate, so it's possible that the remaining seeds are still in the process of growing. The forecasted rain should actually help with the germination process. We recommend continuing to water and persevere, and hopefully you'll see a fuller lawn soon.
